We adopted our puppy, Paws, in June, 2009 from an AKC breeder in Maryland. He was eleven weeks old and the cutest thing. His back legs were a little shaky, but the veterinarian gave him a clean bill of health. We had an awesome summer running around the yard and playing with him. Paws would wake us up every morning before school with wet dog kisses. He was fine until the morning of October 28, when he cried loudly while playing with Elsa, our other dog. He went to his cage and collapsed. We knew something was wrong. We brought him to the veterinarian right away. The doctor said he most likely had Wobbler's Syndrome. The doctor also said it was very common in Great Danes. He stayed overnight so the doctors could run some tests and know if he was going to be OK. The next day, the specialist said that he also felt it was most likely Wobbler's Syndrome and that he needed surgery to correct the spine immediately. We were told that he could become paralyzed at any moment and at that point he would have to be put down. We have to supervise him at all times so doesn't fall...he can't play with us or Elsa (his Mastiff friend) because he could get seriously hurt. Without the diagnostic test and subsequent surgery Paws will, at some point just collapse and his life will end. The surgery, unfortunately is very expensive and we have been left with the horrible choice to take him home, keep him comfortable and safe until we can raise the money to help him. Please help us save Paws by donating a dollar (or more) for his surgery and telling everyone you know about our poor dog. Thank you for your kindness. Paw's Human, Emily |
